A Punic Wars were the series of iii wars fought between Rome and the Phoenician city of Carthage. It is referred to as a "Punic" Wars because Rome's title for Carthaginians was Punici (older Poenici, due to their Phoenician ancestry).

A primary are causal agents for of a Punic Wars was a clash of interests between the expanding Carthaginian & Roman spheres of influence. A Romans were particularly interested around expansion via Sicily, virtually all of which lay under Carthaginian control. Initially of a number one Punic War, Carthage was the ascendant power of the Mediterranean, with an extensive nautical empire, when Rome wwhen apace rising inside prominence as a dominant power inside Italy.
